Shocking! Rohit Sharma, Gill, Jaiswal, and Pant Struggle in Ranji Trophy Matches

Ranji Trophy 2025

Cricket fans were left stunned as four of India’s biggest cricketing stars – Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant – had a forgettable day in their Ranji Trophy matches.

With high hopes pinned on them, their dismal performances left their teams struggling. Let’s see in detail what exactly happened.

Rohit Sharma’s Tough Return

The excitement was sky-high as Indian captain Rohit Sharma made his comeback to the Ranji Trophy after almost a decade. But it wasn’t the return anyone hoped for. Rohit managed just 3 runs off 19 balls in Mumbai’s match against Jammu and Kashmir at the BKC ground.

Right from the start, Rohit didn’t look comfortable. J&K pacer Umar Nazir kept troubling him with accurate bowling. At one point, a delivery bounced awkwardly and hit Rohit on the arm, showing how tough it was for him to get going. In the end, Nazir pitched a short and wide ball, and Rohit, trying his trademark pull shot, only managed to sky it to mid-off.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Falls Quickly

Opening alongside Rohit, the talented Yashasvi Jaiswal also failed to impress. He scored just 5 off 8 balls before being trapped LBW by J&K pacer Auqib Nabi.

Jaiswal started well with a nice square cut, but Nabi quickly dismissed him. A ball swung back sharply, surprising Jaiswal and getting him out early.

Shubman Gill’s Brief Stay

In Bengaluru, Punjab’s star batter Shubman Gill also had a rough outing in the Ranji Trophy. Playing against Karnataka at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Gill could only score 4 runs off 8 balls

His return to the Ranji Trophy after more than two years didn’t go as planned, leaving fans disappointed.

Rishabh Pant Struggles Too

Meanwhile, in Rajkot, Delhi’s dynamic wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant also had a day to forget. Known for his aggressive batting, Pant was uncharacteristically quiet, scoring just 1 run off 10 balls before getting out against Saurashtra.

A Day to Learn From

For fans, it was shocking to see some of India’s biggest stars struggle like this. Rohit, Jaiswal, Gill, and Pant are known for their match-winning abilities, but cricket is unpredictable, and even the best players can have an off day.

However, this is what makes the Ranji Trophy so special—it’s a place where young talents and seasoned stars face real challenges. While these players had a tough day, there’s no doubt they’ll bounce back stronger in their next matches.

Interesting Facts

  • Umar Nazir, who dismissed Rohit Sharma, is the only player left from the J&K team that defeated Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy 10 years ago.
  • This was Rohit Sharma’s first Ranji Trophy match since 2013.

The Ranji Trophy often surprises us with its twists and turns. For these cricketing superstars, it’s a chance to prove why they are among the best.

Fans will be watching closely to see how they respond in the upcoming games. Will they deliver or face more challenges?
Stay tuned!
